The Joint Committee for Children's Health Care in Everett (JCCHCE) works to ensure access to health care services for the children of Everett. They also assist residents with completing applications for health insurance. The health insurance programs include those that are funded by the state of Massachusetts. Twice a year, they conduct educational events for parents. The events focus on childhood, parenting and health issues.
In 1994, an Everett school teacher saw a growing need for health care access for Everett's children. Through her efforts, a group of concerned people gathered to form the JCCHCE. Some of the founding members include teachers, school principals, and hospital administrators. Other members include business, civic, and government leaders. Health care professionals and concerned parents were also involved.
The Committee has served as an example of Everett's spirit of cooperation and leadership. The Committee is a true partnership. This unique partnership has helped thousands of Everett's residents to gain access to health care insurance coverage. In addition, JCCHCE has also helped residents become informed about health issues relevant to them.
According to its mission, the JCCHCE firmly believes that it is a right for Everett's residents to access health care and knowledge. This will enable them to become healthy and productive members of the community.
The JCCHCE is a not-for-profit corporation. It is dedicated to advocating for universal access to health care for all children of Everett. It also focuses on the health and wellbeing of Everett residents. The JCCHCE partners with groups and individuals to promote health programs and education. One such program is Everett Walks and Talks.
Everett Walks and Talks is a city-wide campaign to increase daily exercise and healthy eating. Programs work to improve physical infrastructure and promote policy improvements to promote exercise. Everett Walks and Talks will create new walking programs and expand existing ones. The goal is to improve the physical and mental health of residents of all ages. The campaign also seeks to build a stronger sense of community throughout Everett. These programs also serve to raise money in support of the Everett After-School Program (a JCCHCE partner).
